Those that suffer from back pain should know that it is brought on for different reasons and comes in many diverse ways. Often people that are injured in an accident can have back pain develop. Sometimes it is a symptom of an illness that you have. Although you may not be aware of what you are doing consciously, certain activities can actually cause back pain as well. The way you sleep, sit, walk and exercise can all have an impact on your spine and contribute to back pain if something is causing too much strain.

Are you one of those people who sit for a long time without getting up to stretch? It may surprise you to learn that this can lead to backaches and back pain. Moreover, the chair in which you are sitting, even if it isn’t comfortable, isn’t necessarily the problem. Just sitting too long can cause back problems. The fact is, sitting down puts a lot more pressure on your back than standing or walking. You may have noticed that many people who work in professions that require them to sit a lot – such as office workers – experience more instances of back pain. There is a trend in some businesses to change over to desks that let you stand up and work. Draftsmen, for example, often stand at their drawing boards instead of working seated. One of the benefits of standing up more is that research has shown that it is actually better for your health than sitting. Maybe the thought of working while standing up doesn’t appeal to you. If so, at least get up from time to time and move around a bit. This moving about will relieve some of the pressure on your back – you can take a short walk, do some stretching, or just stand up for a few minutes. If you have suffered from a spinal fracture, this could be the reason for your back pain. This is not unusual. Spinal fractures usually occur because of a reduction in bone mass due to osteoporosis. Women are particularly prone to this, but both men and women are at risk for this as they age. As the bones become thinner and brittle due to osteoporosis, they are more apt to become damaged or fractured. An injury can cause the bones to collapse, which can be very painful and can even cause deformation of the spine. Your doctor may give you a prescription to relieve the pain, but this just treats the symptoms, not the root cause. At times, surgery may be necessary to keep the bones that have fractured in place. There is evidence that regular exercise and a healthy diet can reduce the severity of osteoporosis and help prevent spinal fractures.

Anyone that has a lot of stress in their daily life can suffer from back pain. The reason is that your muscles will become tense. Each person will have a different reaction to stress in their lives, which may develop as a backache, stiff neck, or an ailment somewhere else on the body. To avoid physical symptoms, you need to reduce your stress before it affects your body. Throughout your body, stress can cause inflammation due to high levels of the hormone cortisol being released.
To prevent stress from reaching these levels, you need to acknowledge that you are experiencing the stress that you feel. Stress has also been shown to sustain injuries that would otherwise heal much more quickly, which is another reason that you should get rid of the stress that bothers you.
It’s not easy to live with chronic back pain. Even getting up in the mornings can seem like a major chore. If you can discover why you suffer from back pain, you can set a plan in place to keep the pain from returning in the future. If there’s an underlying medical problem this, of course. must be addressed. If not, simply pay attention to your overall health and fitness, your diet, and any other issues in your life that may lead to back pain.
