The therapeutic treatment known as inversion therapy involves the body hanging upside down or at an angle, which is intended to help with back pain and back aches. The Apollo inversion table for back pain is becoming more commonly recognized by the day.

Decompression of the vertebrae and disks is promoted by hanging upside down like a bat, from your ankles or lower body, as opposed to other forms of inversion, such as yoga poses of head stands or hand stands, or hanging from a bar using your hands. When the body is normally upright, gravity pulls down on the joints so when you hang by your feet like you do with gravity boots or on an inversion table, gravity pulls in the opposite direction so that the joints loosen up.

Proponents claim that inversion therapy is particularly beneficial for the spine in that it relieves pressure on the discs and nerve roots. The pressure on the spinal nerves is further reduced by the discs regaining shape due to the recovery of lost moisture in the discs. Those skeptical of these claims state the just lying down will relieve the pressure. However, the argument made by proponents, and I am such a proponent as I myself use an inversion table, argue that the pressure of tight muscles is not removed while lying down, as gravity is still exerting its force in a typical manner, and so therefore the traction of inversion is required so that the space between the discs can be opened.

While they are holding the bones of the spine and legs together, your ligaments that are crossing the joints under traction are subjected to pulling forces, assisted by passive muscle tension, the skin, and the muscle fascia. Proponents claim gradual introduction and increases of the intensity and duration of traction can cause stimulation for the strength of ligaments to increase.
