Yoga for Lower Back Pain : Cat Cow Yoga Pose for Lower Back Pain
If you are like me chances are you will experience back pain. It could be as simple as a pulled/strained muscle or as serious as a herniated disc. There are many causes of an aching back and as I dig deeper into the subject I find more and more ways a person can end up with a bad back. It’s important to understand these cause so one can avoid the pain and discomfort that comes from having a sore back.
The procedure I had was a discectomy. This is where a piece of the disc is removed to relieve pressure on your nerves. disectomy is the most common form of back operation. In my case the surgeon also created more space between my disc and the nerve.
Another common procedure is the foramenotomy. Here the disc is removed plus some bone and other tissue, obviously a little more severe than a discectomy.
Laminectomy is most often used when spinal stenosis is the diagnosis. Here bone is removed to relieve pressure on the spinal column and many times the spine will also be fused.
There are other spinal operations but the above are the most common. Be aware that surgery has many risks. Be sure to learn all you can about the procedure that has been recommended and take steps for your recovery by investigating programs to help you recover and prevent back problems in the future.
This next exercise is a “spin off” if you will of the above exercise. Again, you will need to find a hard flat surface for this exercise as well. Here, you will lie completely flat on your back and use your arms to bring both of your legs up as close to your chest as possible. Hold your legs in this position for up to 10 seconds and slowly relax your legs back down to the floor. You should repeat this exercise three times.
Finding the right back pain relief exercise for you and your individual issue might prove to be a trial and error scenario. However, more than likely you will find a great exercise program with the assistance of your medical care provider to meet all of your needs and relieve your back pain. If you feel the pain has intensified in any way while you are exercising you should immediately stop the exercising and contact your medical care provider for other suggestions.
